Aliens are my brother

Fascinating stuff:

The Pope's chief astronomer says that life on Mars cannot be ruled out. Writing in the Vatican newspaper, the astronomer, Father Gabriel Funes, said intelligent beings created by God could exist in outer space.

Just as there are multiple forms of life on earth, so there could exist intelligent beings in outer space created by God. And some aliens could even be free from original sin, he speculates.

Ah, now I feel better.

But what is the point of him speculating they are free from orignial sin? According to the authoritative text on the issue, it's only humans that have it, all other life forms do not. In fact the ONLY way for aliens to have org. sin is if they were created in God's image, as we are, which - assuming no muliple equilibria of God's image - would mean they are pretty much exactly the same as us. However, If God's image is undefinable in the same way that God itself is, then what's the point in talking about it in the first place? Oh yeah, I remeber: because its all a load of medieval B*LLSH#T!
